Internal infrastructure
This page describes the services Common Knowledge runs on: where our domains, websites and apps live, and the tools we use for email, documents and credentials. For the everyday tools we use to organise, see Platforms.
Domains and DNS
Our domains are registered with Gandi, managed on our behalf by Web Architects.
Our DNS is managed in Cloudflare.
Hosting
We have a preference for:
- Kinsta for WordPress sites. See How we do WordPress.
- Render for everything else, including Postgres databases.
Our own services follow the same pattern:
| Service | Hosting |
|---|---|
| commonknowledge.coop | Kinsta |
| Mapped | Render |
| StrikeMap | Render |
| This handbook | GitHub Pages |
We have moved away from Heroku. The only app still hosted there is the GCC Calculator. Some older projects store files in DigitalOcean Spaces.
Client projects
For client projects, the client owns the hosting account from day one, and we are invited to it as users. Client services should not be paid for on the Common Knowledge company card except as a last resort. See Recurring expenses.
Error tracking
We use Sentry to track errors in our apps.
Our email is hosted by Soverin. Our main shared mailbox is hello@commonknowledge.coop.
Workspace
We have migrated from Google Workspace to Proton. We use Proton for everything apart from email and credentials, including documents, file storage, calendars and video calls.
Credentials
We store credentials in Bitwarden.
